2010 International Forum on the Frontier of Fire Safety Materials was successfully held by the State Key Laboratory of Fire Science (SKLFS) in University of Science & Technology of China (USTC), Hefei, and Sept. 16th, 2010. The forum was hosted by Prof. Naian Liu. The vice president of USTC Xiangdong Ye and the executive vice director of SKLFS Heping Zhang gave their welcome speeches, respectively.
A number of famous professors and scholars, domestically and aboard, were present at the forum, including Prof. Charles A. Wilkie (Marquette University, USA), Prof. Giovanni Camino (Politecnico di Torino Sede di Alessandria, Italy), Prof. Serge Bourbigot (Equipe Procedes d’Elaboration desRevetements Fonctionnels, France), Prof. Baljinder Kandola (University of Bolton, UK), Dr. Kelvin Shen (Rio Tinto Minerals, USA), Prof. T. Richard Hull (University of Central Lancashire, UK), Prof. José-Marie Lopez Cuesta (Pole Materiaux Polymeres Avances, France), Prof. Manfred Döring (Institute for Technical Chemistry, Germany) and Prof. Yuan Hu (USTC).

Before the forum started, The vice president of USTC Xiangdong Ye and the executive vice director of SKLFS Heping Zhang issued the title of visiting professor to Prof. Charles A. Wilkie and Prof. Serge Bourbigot. Then, Prof. Naian Liu gave an introduction about the SKLFS and exhibited some recent research outputs.
During the forum, professors and scholars delivered great speeches and made lively discussions around the following topics: opportunity and challenge of new fire safety materials; toxicity and environmental issues; how to better combine fire safety science with fire engineering; further international collaboration and coordination.
At last, specialists made an agreement on strengthening the cooperation and communication in the field of fire safety materials. In order to offer a comprehensive platform for international communication, an International Federation for Fire Safety Materials Protocol has been drawn up.
