Abstract: In current experiments, schima superba is made to simulate the fire-resistant tree species and its thermal decomposition process is studied by using dynamic thermogravimetry. From the plot of the sample's weight loss against temperature shown as both TG and DTG curves, It's found that there are three main weight loss processes as the temperature rising and at 500degreesC the remnant of the sample is less than 10% of initial weight. Furthermore, the spread of forest fire is simulated in fuel bed by using pine needle as fuel. Based on the analysis of temperature field recorded by thermocouples and the results of the former pyrogenation experiments, we demonstrate that water evaporation is the vital factor of the reactivity of fire-resistant tree species in forest fires. Some other conclusions including the characteristics and mechanism of the resistance of the tree species under the flame and the effect of slope to forest fires are also described in the present paper. The study would be helpful to develop the biological fire prevention technique, which is widely applied to preventing and controlling the large scope forest fires.
