Abstract: In order to elucidate the cause of the fire and explosion of asphalt-salts mixture, the Reaction characteristics and heat generation of asphalt-salts mixture were studied by using a heat flux reaction calorimeter (C80D). The reaction mechanisms and reaction kinetic parametere can be obtained as about 160degreesC and the reaction mechanism must be an interface reaction including a chemical reactio were discussed based on the heat flux curves. The reaction of asphalt with salts is a first order reaction, the onset temperature of the asphalt-salts mixtur n rate-determining step and diffusion rate determining step under 245degreesC, and then it becomes a liquid-liquid homogeneous reaction when the temperature exceed 245degreesC.
