Abstract: A combined field and zone modeling approach is proposed for simulating the smoke propagation in the multiple compartments in this paper. In this method, field model is used to model the smoke movement in the compartments with complex fire induced airflow, e.g. in the fire origin room, where the two-layer zone assumption is not valid. And zone model is used to model the smoke propagation in the linking compartments, where the smoke movement can be reasonably simulated according to the two-layer zone assumption. The combined field and zone model is able to provide much accurate prediction on smoke movement in multi-rooms than the zone model, and requires much less computational resource and computing time than the field model.
